Maryland Trumpet Guy

Private Lesson Agreement

Thank you for choosing Maryland Trumpet Guy for private trumpet instruction. This agreement outlines the policies and expectations for lessons.

1. Scheduling and Payment

Lessons are scheduled through the Maryland Trumpet Guy online scheduling system. The date and time selected during booking constitute the scheduled lesson time.

Payment is due at the time of booking unless another payment arrangement has been agreed upon in writing. A lesson that has not been paid for in advance may not be provided.

The availability shown through the online scheduling system represents the instructor's current lesson availability. Holidays, vacations, planned breaks, and other periods when the instructor is unavailable may not be available for booking.

Lesson rates may be adjusted periodically to reflect changes in operating costs, demand, and the value of instruction. Existing students will receive advance notice of at least 1 month of any rate changes.

2. Cancellation and Missed Lessons

Students who need to cancel or reschedule a lesson should provide at least 24 hours' notice.

  • A lesson canceled with at least 24 hours' notice is eligible for a makeup lesson.

  • Except as provided under the Illness, Family or Other Emergencies, and Instructor Cancellations policies, a lesson missed or canceled with less than 24 hours' notice is considered forfeited.

  • Makeup lessons are scheduled according to the instructor's availability.

  • Makeup lessons should be completed within 14 days of the missed lesson unless otherwise agreed upon.

  • Students may have no more than one outstanding makeup lesson at a time.

  • A makeup lesson that is missed or canceled by the student is forfeited.

3. Late Arrival

Students are expected to arrive on time.

If a student is running late, they should notify the instructor as soon as possible. If a student does not arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time without prior communication, the instructor may consider the lesson forfeited or may reschedule the lesson at their discretion and based on availability.

When a student arrives late, the lesson will generally end at its originally scheduled time.

4. Illness

Students experiencing a fever, contagious illness, or symptoms that could reasonably expose others should not attend an in-person lesson.

When reasonably possible, an in-person lesson may be moved online. If an online lesson is not practical, the lesson may be rescheduled in accordance with the instructor's availability.

5. Family or Other Emergencies

Emergencies happen. Students or parents/guardians should notify the instructor as soon as reasonably possible when an emergency prevents attendance.

When appropriate, the instructor will work with the student to reschedule the lesson. If a reschedule within 7 days of the original lesson date is not reasonably possible due to the emergency, the original lesson will not be charged or will be credited/refunded, as appropriate.

6. Instructor Cancellations

If the instructor must cancel a lesson, the student will be offered a makeup lesson.

If the instructor is delayed, the lesson will be extended when reasonably possible so that the student receives the full scheduled lesson time. If this is not practical, the following lesson can be extended, or the lesson may be rescheduled.

If a makeup lesson cannot reasonably be provided within 7 days, the lesson will not be charged or the student will receive an appropriate refund or credit.

7. Planned Breaks and Closures

Maryland Trumpet Guy may periodically be unavailable for holidays, vacations, professional obligations, or other planned breaks.

Unavailable dates will generally be removed from the online scheduling calendar. Students are encouraged to communicate known conflicts or extended absences in advance.

When applicable, tuition or lesson charges will be adjusted for planned instructor breaks.

8. Weather and Emergency Closures

In the event of severe weather, unsafe travel conditions, or another emergency affecting in-person lessons, lessons may be moved online when reasonably possible.

If an online lesson is not practical, the lesson will be rescheduled or credited.

9. Practice and Lesson Preparation

Regular practice significantly contributes to student progress.

Students are expected to:

  • Bring required music, books, and materials to lessons.

  • Arrive on time and prepared.

  • Practice consistently between lessons.

  • Communicate questions, concerns, and performance goals with the instructor.

  • Make a reasonable effort to apply concepts and assignments discussed during lessons.

Students are responsible for providing and maintaining:

  • A working trumpet in good playing condition.

  • Valve oil and other necessary maintenance supplies.

  • Assigned method books and music.

  • A music stand for home practice when appropriate.

  • A metronome and tuner, physical or digital.

10. Communication

Questions regarding lessons, assignments, scheduling, cancellations, or other lesson-related concerns should be directed to Maryland Trumpet Guy using the contact information provided through the website or lesson-related communications.

Students and parents/guardians are responsible for keeping their contact information current.

11. Privacy and Media

Information provided to Maryland Trumpet Guy will be used for purposes related to providing and administering lesson services and communicating with students or parents/guardians.

Permission to use photographs or short video recordings of lessons, performances, or students for Maryland Trumpet Guy promotional purposes will be collected separately through the scheduling/intake process.

Media permission is optional and is not required to receive lessons.

12. Discontinuing Lessons

Either the student/student's parent or guardian, or the instructor may discontinue ongoing lessons at any time. When a recurring lesson time has been reserved, two weeks' written notice is requested when reasonably possible so the lesson time can be made available to another student.

Any prepaid lessons that have not yet been taught will be refunded, less any outstanding balances, subject to the policies in this agreement.

Payment for lessons that have already been taught is non-refundable.

13. Inactivity

Students who stop scheduling lessons for an extended period without making arrangements with Maryland Trumpet Guy may lose any recurring or previously reserved lesson time.

If you need to take a temporary break from lessons, please communicate this in advance. Students are always welcome to return after a period of inactivity, but previous lesson times and availability cannot be guaranteed.

14. Changes to This Agreement

Maryland Trumpet Guy may update these policies as the business develops.

When a material change is made, current students or their parent/guardian will be notified of the change as soon as reasonably possible.

Students who choose to continue lessons after receiving notice of an updated agreement will be expected to follow the updated policies.

15. Agreement and Acknowledgement

By booking or participating in lessons with Maryland Trumpet Guy, the student or the student’s parent/legal guardian acknowledges that they have read, understand, and agree to the policies contained in this agreement.

For students under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for agreeing to these terms on the student’s behalf.
