Mutes:
What is it and Should I get one?
Mutes are useful for a variety of reasons: they change the sound, create different effects, and can be quiet enough you can play while your family is asleep.
Practice mutes make it so quiet you can play while your family is asleep. I use the Yamaha practice mute below and it blocks out about 99% of the sound (not kidding). If you want a cheaper option that blocks out 50-80% of the sound, select "Cheaper Practice Mute".
Both will get the job done.
